June 2010 Muslims BIG now Muslims World Be There or Be Square

June 4-6, 2010, thousands of innovative, professional movers and shakers among the muslim world will meet in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It's a business and investment gala, an event with positive connotations.

Letters from Dato'Raja ...

Ladies & Gentlemen,

Good morning and Welcome to the Official Launch of MuslimsBIG 2010 Business & Investment Gala!

First and foremost, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to YB Dato Mukhriz Mahathir for taking time off from his very busy schedule to be with us here today to officially launch MuslimsBIG 2010. Anyway I understand that Y.B. has to leave by 10am.

It is with great pleasure that we bring you the MuslimsBIG 2010 Business & Investment Gala which will be held for the first time in Malaysia from June 4-6 2010, right here at the Putra World Trade Centre.

With the aim of making Malaysia the “One-stop International Islamic Investment and Economic hub”, MuslimsBIG 2010 is a ground-breaking event for the global Islamic business community to meet, interact and transact business.

Ladies & Gentlemen,

The economic integration of Islamic countries through intra-trade cooperation is need of the hour to improve intra-regional trade and face the upcoming challenges under globalisation.

It is undeniable that the definition of a successful Islamic organisation or nation depends on its volume of trade. It is a universal fact that we determine a country’s performance ability based on its economic values.

The total trade volume of Islamic countries stands at a staggering US$2 trillion. Impressive figures indeed! The manufacturing and tourism sectors, particularly, form a significant component of the GDP for most Islamic Member Countries.

E.U, the United States of America and China control 84 per cent of that volume. In contrast, the Muslim nations control a mere 16 per cent, and sadly, can only play a marginal role in terms of business negotiations and technological advancements.

Furthermore, the vast disparity in the GDP per capita of Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) member countries should be viewed as an imperative for cooperation rather than an obstacle for closer interactions.

For instance, the GDP per capita of the six richest members exceeds USD 10,000 a year while 46 OIC members have per capita income of less than USD 1,000 per year.

In fact, 22 out of 57 OIC countries or almost 40% of the OIC members are considered least developed countries.

Therefore, the manufacturing and tourism sector in economic terms, is considered one of the most effective means in reducing poverty, which is why, these sectors are one of the main priorities of the Islamic Countries.

Ladies & Gentlemen,

When Malaysia took over the chairmanship of the OIC four years ago, OIC underwent a massive rebranding and restructuring exercise, from a mere political body to an economic body.

While there was only 7 per cent of intra-trade among OIC countries in 2004, today, the figure stands at 16 per cent, thanks to visionary moves undertaken by Malaysia’s former Prime Ministers, Tun Mahathir Mohamad.

Nevertheless, even though OIC is a strong economic body today, what is crucial is the percentage of intra-trade among its members, as in the long run, we only determine a country’s cooperation based on economic values.

It is undeniable that the definition of a successful Islamic organisation, like the OIC, depends on the volume of trade among member countries, which in turn, could help empower the image of Islamic economy to the world.

Ladies & Gentlemen,

MuslimsBig 2010 is yet another project that OIC International Business Centre is undertaking, in collaboration with ECommerce Gateway Pakistan with Malaysian Islamic Chamber of Commerce KL, to improve the intra-trade among Islamic countries after the numerous initiatives of publishing various OIC-related publications, namely the OIC Trade Directory, OIC Tourism Directory, Muslim Manufacturing Trade Directory and the upcoming OIC Education Directory, as well as the OIC Today Magazine, which is in its 23rd issue, for the same reason.

We will start the ball rolling by hosting the 3-day MuslimsBIG 2010 event, comprising of an Exhibition and a Conference.

MuslimsBIG is poised to be the leading trade show dedicated to transforming Malaysia into the Global Halal Business Hub.

MuslimsBIG will also be an annual event as OIC International Business Centre, together with our partner, Ecommerce Gateway of Pakistan is committed to organizing it yearly from 2010.

I can assure you that with the support of both the Malaysian Government and the Government of Pakistan, MuslimsBIG will become bigger over the years with more halls, more exhibitors and delegates, more joint ventures and business transactions, more visitors and eventually MuslimsBIG will be the Premier event for the Halal and Muslim industry to participate in.

Ladies & Gentlemen,

MuslimsBIG 2010 is the ideal platform for businessmen, entrepreneurs, international investors & buyers from all parts of the world to explore Joint Venture, Investment and Trade opportunities available in the Muslim countries as well as in all participating countries and industry sectors.

The Exhibition is targeted to increase the intra trade among the Muslim World and participating countries as well as to support and enhance the MICE sector in all Muslim World countries globally.

The Exhibition will also establish a platform for exhibitors to break into non-traditional markets as well as to strengthen international markets.

Prominent speakers from all over the world are being invited to speak at the conference, which will be held in Dewan Tun Hussein Onn.

We will also have panel discussions by various experts in their respective fields on ways to increase intra OIC trade and tourism.

Among the main Conference Topics are:

Islamic Banking & Investment Opportunities

Tourism-Tool for Building Economic Strength

Global Trends of Halal Food Industry

Revolution & Connectivity in the Telecom World

Information Technology – Key to Achieving Developed Status

Property Outlooks

Education- Transition & Transformation

Ladies & Gentlemen,

Last but not least, in an effort to increase the tourism and trade market in Muslim countries, an organized effort has to be carried out to educate and promote the hidden treasures and resources of the Islamic World countries that are unknown to the world.

I strongly believe that MuslimsBIG 2010, with the continuous support of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), under the dynamic leadership of YB Dato’ Mukhriz Mahathir, is an appropriate initiative towards putting Malaysia as an Islamic investment and economic hub and accept the country as the most ideal place to rebrand Islamic economics.

The mere presence of YB Dato’ Mukhriz Mahathir today at this prestigious event, without a doubt, shows his Ministry’s and the Malaysian Government’s serious commitment in supporting us in our every effort in the upcoming years.

Thank you once again YB for your support we will continue our fight for the betterment of the Ummah.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our event partners, namely ECommerce Gateway and Tourism Malaysia, as well as our Official Sponsors and other Partners and all present here today.
